Carribean Flavour.
London Swagger.
Always Fresh.

Welcome to the real taste of Jamaica in South London. Every dish is cooked from scratch, every portion is generous, and every customer is family. Come hungry. Leave happy.

Our Story: From Jamaica to Nunhead - A Dream Served Hot

In 2013, with nothing but a suitcase of old recipes and his mother’s blessing, James opened Jerkiz on Evelina Road. It was a tiny kitchen, but it was all heart. He cooked not just to feed himself, but to share the warmth of his Jamaican roots with a city he now called home.

The early days were tough. James worked two jobs, fired up the grill before sunrise, and hustled till closing, serving one loyal customer at a time. But word travels fast when food is cooked with soul. The smoky aroma of jerk chicken, the spice of curry goat, and the comfort of fried plantain drew people in. They came hungry, but they left with more than full bellies, they left with memories.

James never cut corners. Every marinade is made from scratch, every portion is generous, every smile behind the counter is real. His food is an invitation to belong, whether you’re fresh from work, missing home, or just looking for a proper meal that fills you up in every way.

Over ten years later, Jerkiz has grown, but nothing’s changed at its core. We’re still here, seven days a week, welcoming neighbours, families, and anyone who loves a good story told through food. For us, every dish is a celebration of Jamaican culture, a thank you to the community that believed in James’s dream.

At Jerkiz, you don’t just eat, you become part of the family. Our kitchen is your kitchen. Our table is your table. And no matter where you come from, there’s always a place for you here.

I visited Jerkiz for the first time last week and I have to say, I was genuinely impressed. From the moment I walked in, the staff were friendly and welcoming, which really set the tone for the rest of my visit.

I ordered the jerk chicken with rice and peas, along with a side of plantain, and it did not disappoint. The chicken was perfectly cooked, really juicy with just the right amount of spice and smokiness. You could tell the marinade had been given time to do its work. The rice and peas were full of flavour, and the plantain was beautifully caramelised, which balanced out the heat from the chicken.

The atmosphere inside was relaxed and lively, and there was a real sense of community, with people coming in for takeaways, It’s clear they have quite a few regulars, which says a lot.

All in all, Jerkiz is now one of my top spots for proper Caribbean food in South East London. Great food, generous portions, and fair prices, I’ll definitely be back and would recommend it to anyone craving authentic jerk chicken.

Unacceptable Behavior from Staff Member

I had a deeply unsettling experience at this takeaway yesterday while collecting a food delivery order. I was waiting patiently, as I always do, and when asked for the delivery number, I provided it clearly. However, the staff member, a young woman, appeared to mishear me. When I repeated the number, her reaction was shocking and completely uncalled for.
She made a dismissive face and, for reasons unknown to me, abruptly said, "English please." I was speaking English, and this comment felt entirely discriminatory and racist. I had said nothing else to provoke such a remark. It's incredibly disheartening to be treated with such disrespect, especially when simply doing my job.
It seems as though she felt empowered to speak to a delivery rider in a way she would never address a paying customer, simply because I was there to collect an order. This incident ruined my day and is a serious concern regarding the staff's professionalism and respect towards individuals providing a service to their business. I hope this behavior is addressed.

I ordered a large meal today 16.50 and receive a small meal. A staff in the restaurant told me they have changed their portion sizes ordered by the boss. Really? I said I used to be a avid customer personally and for my company and team and would reconsider our choices. I am not happy with the outcome. She said that's ok. Customer services down the drain. Boss of jerkiz your business will lose if you continue to defend your customer care and service.

Nice food, shame about the lack of customer service ( service with a smile too much to ask).

This point, seems to be a running trend, within Caribbean cuisine shops.

Love this place, the akee and saltfish is the best I've tried. Good prices, friendly staff. Super popular around lunchtime so make sure you get in early!

I stopped by here on the way home and couldn’t have been more happy with my decision. Delicious food, lots of it, and super affordable. If in Nunhead, you’d be mad not to try it 💕 I had the steak!

So I ordered curry goat and hard food last night via just eat. Waited and waited. The just eat app said t had been delivered but it never had. Tried to call the restaurant several times but no one picked up and the voice message was their new year opening hours. When I checked again the delivery address was 100 Evelina Road, which is their own address!!! Not sure if this was a scam but was very disappointed and expect a full refund
